Estuve buscando el libro en M�xico, librer�as y por internet. Y no lo ten�an disponible. Ya que es un libro un poco complicado de encontrar, me d� gusto que lo pude encontrar en Amazon, ped� 2, llegaron en 3 d�as. Ya ten�a la versi�n pasada de los dos tomos; 1-7 y 8-16. Y este libro s� es el doble en cantidad de p�ginas. No parece que le hayan cortado algo. Gracias Amazon!

Unremitting Sadness

The only positive things to say about this book are the writing skills and the ability to tell a story well. The plot of the story is fairly simple. A man grew up in poverty but met a young woman and fell in love with her and married her. They had three children. They lived on the farm where they were very happy. The only thing that kept him from complete happiness was his fear of poverty. He yearned for money, clothing, cars, large houses. Farming did not give this to him. His wife adored him and so did his three children but when he was tempted he left them without ever seeing them again even though they lived in the same town. He was singled out by a young woman who decided she wanted him and went after him with the one thing he could not turn down, money. He often thought about his wife and children and how much he loved him but he loved the good life more. There was a divorce and his wife, who grieved terribly, finally got on with her life. When his oldest son was 17 he ran away and in the course of trying to find him the husband finally came back to his wife. The problem was his three sons, who had tried to move on, turned on him with hatred and told him he was no longer their father. This book does not have a happy ending. Why someone felt the need to spend this much time and effort writing such sadness is a mystery to me.

where to begin......

Semi SPOILERS AHEAD..........I've been reading the reviews and wondering if we're all reading the same book....( scratching head ). Several reviews describe this as kind of an epic love story and I'm realy very curious to know how they've come to that conclusion. In my opinion, this could in no way be classified as a love story. Granted, for the first quarter of the book I believed I was reading just that, but I pretty quickly realized that wasn't the case. The book is certainly an angst fest, but I just can't fiqure out what category to put it. I wouldn't put it under "chick lit" because it just isn't realistic enough, although it comes far closer to this than a love story. It is however, one of the most depressing books I've ever read. Please don't go into this thinking you'll be getting a HEA because it won't happen. It basically tells the story of how easily greed can destroy and frankly I wasn't prepared for it, which is why I'd like to categorize it so future readers can at least know what they're buying. I can't say that Ms. East is a bad writer, or that the plot isn't a captivating one, but I do think you do a disservice to your reader when no red flags are posted. Although I finished the book, I regreted doing so for weeks after.

Heartbroken love story, but with a "hidden message"

Reader be aware this is not your typical "romance story"

Its harsh, raw and unapologetic and it will break your heart! I hated this book but equally admired the authors guts to go there...where few authors did! That is the reason I am giving it a 5 stars...for the emotions the author inflicted on me..dare to say forced on me, provoked me and shocked me! This book is though provoking..it makes you examine your own life, motivations and priorities and where you stand from moral perspectives!

This author has the ability to craft her story in a realistic portrayal..."showing you" the events like "you are there" everything is so real and emotionally striking.... You feel what the characters are going through...their pain and despair...some moments were so raw I had to stop reading to gather my messed up emotions and reminded myself that this is fiction, nevertheless, it was very real!

I hated the hero and what he did to his family...abandoning his wife and his three children and I had a hard time sympathising with him...yes I understood the concept of the motivations.. "greed for money and selfishness and how that poisoned the hero to the extend of selling himself for luxury at the expense of his own family...leaving them for another woman that had money and could fulfil his desire for rich and easy life! Yes he wanted them to have security and by providing for them financially he thought it will be enough to make them happy! But the fact remains that for loving, caring father, he become a selfish, immoral, narrow-minded human being abandoning his own flesh and blood without so much as a glance, not seeing or speaking to them ever since. His loving wife was shattered and so his children and no matter how different his reasoning were, I couldn't find in me forgiveness for his cruel actions.

There were moments where I could feel his love for his family, when he was hiding their pictures in the attic and looking at them when alone and praying for them to have security....he did not loved the OW and no mater how much richer he had become he couldn't shake his love for his wife and children..the luxury fulfilled him, but at what price? It makes you think about how money can change a person from loving/devoting husband and father to selfish, and cruel one.

The scene where he "finally" went after his wife to see his lost son...was very hard to take...the power of emotions the author infused in this particular scene was heart breaking...

He's finally come home. Oh, god , I love you now more than ever, she thought . His face was still beautiful to her. She could not wait to feel his touch, to live life with him again. To love him forever. She moved toward him. Robert reached out for her and Katherine felt her arm lift, but as she advanced, a figure lunged in front of her and as if in a distant dream she heard yelling. "NO! NO! NO! Don't you touch her! You stay away! Don't you dare come near us! You left us!" It was Thomas. His face red and sweaty as he screamed at his father. "You stay away!" He pounded his chest, anger consuming his flesh, his face redder than freshly drawn blood. "I'm supposed to be your son. You're supposed to love us! Me, Albert, and William. But you left us! You were OUR father and you left us." He leaned forward screaming louder into his father's face. "You left us! I hate you! I hate you! We all hate you!"

In the end, it was "him" that the children wanted the most, not "his money" and he thought he could replace his absence, by providing them financial security.
After that horrible scene....the hero did something that made me so sad...I wish the author could have spear him....I did felt sorry for him in the end.

Just ok. I think this book is a tad overrated according to the reviews it seemed like it was the greatest book ever but it was just alright, kind of a collection of thoughts and prose like poems not really my thing. I wouldn't recommend if you like legitimate poetry but that is my opinion. However this writer shows potential and might be interesting to see another book.

If your are trying to heal from a terrible phase on your life...

The way each poem was written, you can barely see in your mind how painfully it is to be on your own, dealing with the pain all alone and no one to call for help because its 3am. It is very emotional to read. It brought back memories than i have been through for the past years of my life. That tight feeling in my throat again, i felt it while reading. It is a collection of very wonderful poems. Surely you'll love it.

I really like this book. It brings back all the heartbreaks and emotional phase that i have been through for the past year and months. My 2014 was a bit challenging year for me. i felt so many heartaches and emotional break downs and this book made it all came back and i realize how strong i am now. That's just how life is, you feel pain and then you heal.

Absolutely Essential for Professionals

This book may be a little difficult for any professional male to read publicly. I worry that by being seen with it, others will think that I have sexual issues working with females. However, if we as men are honest, most of us do have issues to some degree or another viewing attractive women that we mentor, supervise, treat, or have some other power differential. I think that men have a lot of shame and secrecy about this, which adds to the problem. Some of the natural fantasy that men have may not even be unhealthy, though certainly acting on this is. Unfortunately, the stigma against even mentioning that there is a problem is so great, this is often not even discussed

That being said, the "forbidden zone" relationships that men have with women can be powerful, provided that sexual and professional boundaries are maintained. This book does an incredibly good job of elucidating the problems that potentially and do arise, much of the insight to why this occurs, along with methods for dealing with it. As importantly, it stresses the reasons of maintaining appropriate relationships. I really feel that this book should be read by more men, particularly in professional roles, but good for all men who interact with women at all. Not being a woman, I don't know if it is particularly useful for women to read this. I'm not sure that the problems laid out in this book could be reciprocally true for women by switching the genders in the book. I wouldn't discourage any woman from reading, I simply don't know if there is any relevance.

I will say that since this book was written in the mid to late 80's, some of the culture has changed. Most notably that men are less apt to get away with inappropriate sexual relationships. However, that is not entirely different today. Other than that, this book is hauntingly current in its intuition and recommendations. Who knows, maybe this is a topic that has and will change but little as long as men are attracted to women.
