Great information on Vegan Bodybuilding

Before finding this book I did as I always have and just tried to keep fit and healthy with the information I gathered from the internet without much success.

When I saw this book I was so excited being a vegan almost all of the bodybuilding programs involve eating meat which it something I refuse to do. This book was so easy to follow and the diagrams showing workout moves for the 4 week training program are well illustrated which made it really easy for me to understand what I needed to do.

I loved the recipes my favourite one is the grilled Mediterranean vegetable on white bean mash which has now become one of my favourite meals, all the ingredients for the recipes are easy get hold of as I got all the ingredients from one shop plus the chillies which I grow myself.

Another part I found useful was the vegan bodybuilder’s diet plan that I found had some great tips. With the help of this book I was able to create my own workout program that’s works for me and I was able to change it slightly to suit my needs.

The FAQ section of the book really helped me understand the type of program I was about to start and just gave me that little bit more confidence to try and implement the ideas in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a vegan and wants to start bodybuilding of just keep fit without eating meat.

Really not good

I had a lot of problems with this book. If you are vegan it will frustrate you with inaccuracies. If you aren't vegan and use his sample menus you may never stay vegan. The types of vegan diets and sample food plans recommended 1. Don't often make sense and 2. Don't often provide enough calories and therefore not enough nutrition. For instance under the raw vegan example the author recommends soy cheese. This is NOT a raw food and a raw vegan doesn't eat that. That is just one of many examples where it appears the author doesn't totally know what he is talking about and is likely a processed food vegan rather than a whole food one.

That said. I'm always glad when someone will promote veganism and help break the myth that vegans and raw vegans don't gain muscle. The bottom line is no one needs this book to lift and be vegan. If you follow a healthy vegan diet of real whole foods and you lift you will have gains.

Spread across 144 pages, the book covers all styles of house, from electro and fidget to minimal, soulful and progressive, and features illustrated walkthroughs using Logic, Cubase, Ableton and a variety of other softwares.

Written by Marc Adamo, the text is easy to read but packed with intricate details, giving you the feeling that you're being allowed unprecedented access to a world of programming secrets.

The chapters move through essential topics such as making beats and basslines and adding instruments, vocals and FX, but also touch on song structure, synthesis, mixing and mastering. There are also tips from big name producers and a bonus 500MB CD featuring 500MB of 24-bit WAVs taken from Sample Magic's excellent sample libraries.

The illustrations and walkthroughs really are fantastic, showing precise settings for instruments and plug-ins, plus suggested MIDI arrangements for beats, basslines and chords in different styles.

The only down-sides are the slightly thin cover and the fact that there are no audio files on the disc to reference the topics discussed in each chapter. These niggles aside, this is a great book that is essential reading for any house producers who want to fast-track their progress and get hundreds of tips in one place. Although the walkthroughs lean mainly towards making house music in Logic and Ableton, there are plenty of techniques relevant to all genres of electronic music.

Verdict: A superb book stuffed with intricate walkthroughs, illustrations and techniques. Essential reading.

Must read for beginners. Even amateurs can learn tips and tricks to help elevate their work flow. POOR DURABILITY

The only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 isn't the content. The content is awesome and it doesn't matter what DAW you use...it all translates pretty well. This is a perfect book for beginners-amateurs to get a huge jump start into the art of production. Many sample templates covering all house music genres. Little tips and tricks throughout that really helped elevate my game.

I just want to know what this guy was thinking making it the way he did...I understand a lot of the content couldn't fit properly into a vertical bound book...But WTF? Could have used a little more effort and thought in making it MORE DURABLE. It would be fine if it was bound properly. IF you really use this book a lot, the pages will start to fall out like butter. And then what? It can't sit on bookshelves. It is hard to store anywhere without damage. its not really efficient at all to use while producing cuz of the awkward size. Personally I think it should be remade and given for free for those who provide proof of purchase.

Other than that the print is HIGH quality and VERY legible. Honestly I wish it was just put together right so I wouldnt have to speak anything negative about it...but it really is a huge issue when the pages started falling out.

Great Book

Mine didn't have the Multimedia Redemption code, but Marc Adamo refereed me to the Sample Magic licensing and they fixed me up.

This is really a good read no matter the DAW. It's more music theory for house producers and points out the subtle details of house that I never realized. And I've been a House DJ for 25 Years.

After describing the sum of characteristics that make up the base house sound, Marc goes into detail on how to achieve those characteristics in modern day DAW's. He never starts speaking over the reader's head and seems mindful to pace everything carefully which is ironically also a quality of house music in general.

While I don't think this book stands on it's own in a EDM Librany, that's not it's purpose. This book has so many uses, spur inspiration, ideas, refine the mental workflow of creating music which is 90% of writers block.

Most importantly, it's nice to read theory from not just another producer, but a House producer. That common interest cannot be undervalued.

Great Resource For Aspiring Producers

Like the other reviewer said this book assumes that you have some basic knowledge in DAWs (like FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, etc.)

Visually, it's laid out in a very attractive way. The book itself looks amazing.
It goes over various things like getting various channels with different instruments to mesh together, various genres and what elements define that genre.

It also goes over making synths and has some interesting examples for you to plug in and try yourself. Between the pages of tips, tricks and guides there are insights from various big producers like Wolfgang Gartner which are always fun to read.

It also comes with a sample CD for you to use.

Great book, though I have to say hate the shape of the book itself.
As great as it looks, it's a "floppy long" style of book and doesn't really fit in a bookshelf. Floppy book + hard CD shoved in the back doesn't work too well IMO. But that's pretty much a non-issue.

Preface

Written for students in college criminal justice programs, and for police and corrections officers in training, Reputable Conduct has been designed as a working text rather than a reference book. And while this work combines Dr. Jones' 17 years of experience teaching ethics with Mr. Carlson's 33 years as a law enforcement practitioner and instructor, both acknowledge having been well taught by their many students and colleagues during that time. By design, the writing style and tone of this book are very personal, for as we wrote it, we imagined our students listening in.

Reputable Conduct is intended to be a friendly and easy-to-read introduction to the difficult and sometimes peculiar ethical demands of the professions of policing and corrections. It addresses some of the characteristics of these roles, with particular emphasis on subcultural constraints, and how loyalty to our colleague group can sometimes cause us to sacrifice our individuality. How these constraints may affect the moral decision making of an officer is looked at in detail in Chapters 5, 6, and 7.

One unusual feature of the book is the discussion in Chapter 4, which encourages the student to think about the role of the ethics educator. The discussion has been included so that the educator's role can be more clearly understood by the student. I hope this will reduce the possibility of misunderstanding arising between teacher and student regarding the purpose of an ethics course.

Tools that may be helpful for resolving moral dilemmas are discussed in Chapter 8. Chapter 9 includes several case studies to give students an opportunity to practice using these tools.

Some of the material in the book could be described as sensitive—even controversial—in nature. To gain maximum benefit from the experience of working through the book, students are encouraged to consider with an open mind the readings and the Reflections, which are searching questions interspersed throughout each chapter and based on the preceding content. This will require a degree of maturity and discipline.

Reputable Conduct is designed to provide students with a vehicle to promote private thought and class discussion about issues that—from what I have been told by my students and many practitioners over the years—are important to the vital roles played in our society by police and corrections officers.

If such thinking and discussion contribute, even in some small way, to justice continuing to be served, and to the individual officer's sense of well-being being enhanced, then the effort on all our parts will have been justified. Acknowledgments

In the summer of 1745, Charles Edward Stuart, the grandson of England's King James II, landed on the western coast of Scotland intending to overthrow George II and restore the Stuart family to the throne. He gathered thousands of supporters, and the insurrection he led—the Jacobite Rising of 1745—was a crisis not only for Britain but for the entire British Empire. Rebellion and Savagery examines the 1745 rising and its aftermath on an imperial scale.

Charles Edward gained support from the clans of the Scottish Highlands, communities that had long been derided as primitive. In 1745 the Jacobite Highlanders were denigrated both as rebels and as savages, and this double stigma helped provoke and legitimate the violence of the government's anti-Jacobite campaigns. Though the colonies stayed relatively peaceful in 1745, the rising inspired fear of a global conspiracy among Jacobites and other suspect groups, including North America's purported savages.

The defeat of the rising transformed the leader of the army, the Duke of Cumberland, into a popular hero on both sides of the Atlantic. With unprecedented support for the maintenance of peacetime forces, Cumberland deployed new garrisons in the Scottish Highlands and also in the Mediterranean and North America. In all these places his troops were engaged in similar missions: demanding loyalty from all local inhabitants and advancing the cause of British civilization. The recent crisis gave a sense of urgency to their efforts. Confident that "a free people cannot oppress," the leaders of the army became Britain's most powerful and uncompromising imperialists.

Geoffrey Plank argues that the events of 1745 marked a turning point in the fortunes of the British Empire by creating a new political interest in favor of aggressive imperialism, and also by sparking discussion of how the British should promote market-based economic relations in order to integrate indigenous peoples within their empire. The spread of these new political ideas was facilitated by a large-scale migration of people involved in the rising from Britain to the colonies, beginning with hundreds of prisoners seized on the field of battle and continuing in subsequent years to include thousands of men, women and children. Some of the migrants were former Jacobites and others had stood against the insurrection. The event affected all the British domains.

Title and application are somewhat different

I had expected this discussion to assist me in linking those who settled in the colonies with the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Unfortunately this did not occur in the text. The discussion was devoted to the actual uprising with little further discussion of the refugees or the participants. My family members, the Townley's from Lancashire, were extremely active in the rebellion and in the prior challenges to the crown, but this text did not give me the details that I would have enjoyed having. The work is scholarly and expansive. A good reference for those who want to know more about this period in British history.

Teen Novel Typical of Halvorsen's Work

Darren Jamieson never backs down from a dare. The toughest kid in Crossing, Alberta is no stranger to the kind of trouble that befalls rebellious foster children in small towns - a little vandalism, angry falling-outs with foster parents, recklessness, injuries, and run-ins with the police. When Dare's grandmother passes away, the task of breaking this wild child falls into the hands of a local rancher and subsistute teacher, Laura. Dare, who would rather just take off to a sunnier life in California, agrees to stay with Laura for the sake of his kid brother, Tyler. But Laura and Dare do not get along. Something terrible haunts Dare, and Laura's attempt to work it out of him is noble, worthy, and believable. Halvorson's coming-of-age novel is another in a series of books for young adults set in rural Alberta. The characters are familiar, yet unique; they are true to the small town teen persona. The effective use of literary devices, dialogue, and young adult-centered themes in this story lends the novel to worthwhile study for middle-school age students. The novel is well paced, filled with realistic action, and a climatic finish. Dare does not, however, provide the young reader with a good example of technically polished novel writing. The reader is not rewarded with a piece of high literary merit. Halvorson's use of literary licence does little but confuse and distract. The author's writing does not set a good example for aspiring novelists. The story is rewarding, though. The pages will turn rapidly through to its fiery ending.

I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS REALLY GOOD! IT WAS ABOUT TWO YOUNG BOYS WHO'S MOTHER DIED AND FATHER LEFT THEM. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A FEW YEARS, WHEN THEY HAD BEEN LIVING WITH THEIR GRANDMA, THEY HAD FINALLY FELT LIKE A FAMILY AGAIN. BUT ONE DAY THEIR GRANDMA HAD A STROKE, AND ONCE AGAIN THEIR LIVES HAVE BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN. IN SCHOOL I HAD TO READ ONE OF MARILYN HALVORSON'S BOOKS, CALLED "COWBOY'S DON'T CRY," AND I HATED IT. BUT "DARE," WAS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY AND I'M GLAD I READ IT. NOW FOR SURE I WILL READ ANOTHER ONE OF HER BOOKS.
