About the Author
Bob Sornson, PhD, was a classroom teacher and school administrator for over thirty years and is the founder of the Early Learning Foundation. He is dedicated to helping schools and parents give every child an opportunity to achieve early learning success. His pre-K to grade 3 Early Learning Success Initiative has demonstrated that we can help many more children become successful learners for life.

Maria Dismondy was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. She is the author of three award-winning children's books, including two bestsellers on amazon.

Maria's experiences have shaped her into an individual who lives life to the fullest, appreciating what she has and one who uses her passion to make a difference. She is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children through children's literature.

I wasn't sure, but...

I ordered another Bob Sornson book (about empathy) earlier in the summer, and it was good but not great. I was a little hesitant about this book, but I'm very impressed! The language is kid-friendly, and it's not too wordy. There was a big problem with transitions in the book about empathy, but not in this book. The kids look middle-school age from the illustrations, but the book is still very appropriate to use with elementary kids. The kids in Mr. Peltzer's class have all promised not to be bullies or bystanders, and a new student (Pete) shakes things up. They try to be nice to him anyway, but a girl gets (understandably) upset when Pete squirts purple juice from a juice box on her mostly white shirt. She gets mad, tries to get others to break the promise to be nice to everyone, and walks away. While she's calming down, we discover Pete was bullied at his old school and is bullying at his new school as a defense mechanism. Pete agrees to make the anti-bullying promise, and the girl comes back and apologizes. A happy ending that may not be entirely realistic but that shows kids that there are reasons why bullies bully and that even kids who are trying to be nice may get upset and say things out of anger but can make better choices once they've had time to calm down.

Every teacher should read this first week of school

It brings home the message that we are responsible for our own behavior. We should establish the "rules" of any organization (school, community group, children's teams) get everyone one board with the rules, and keep reinforcing them. It becomes culture.

Recommend as part of a bullying awareness lesson or anti-bullying curriculum.

This book didn't inspire my class to be annoying tattle tales or over-righteous, but helped them to understand that you shouldn't be scared to say something when you see unpleasant things happened to someone else. It also had the redeeming of the bully by explaining why he did it in a way that made sense. Our class all signed anti-bullying pledges after reading this which are posted on our classroom wall. If we see something going on we will speak up, even if it is just by telling a grown up, as it doesn't suggest doing anything drastic that would land yourself in any trouble... Good advice for realistic situations.

About the Author
David Augsburger is the author of 20 books on pastoral counseling, marriage, conflict and human relations. He is a professor of pastoral counseling at Fuller Theological Seminary, and has also taught at seminaries in Chicago, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. For over a decade, he served as radio spokesperson for the Mennonite Churches, and he has written feature articles that have appeared in over 100 different periodicals. An ordained minister of the Mennonite Church and a diplomat of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Augsburger leads workshops internationally.

A superb guide to working anger for Christians

David Augsburger, professor of pastoral care in a Christian seminary, helps Christian people to explore the nature of anger and a range of ways to work with this powerful emotion. He has created a very helpful chart that offers five different ways of moving toward resolution (when the time comes) each offering a range of caring and confronting. They include choosing my way, your way, no way, compromise, or creative effforts to discover our way. Augsburger explores how the Bible encourages both assertiveness and caring and helps the reader to find their own path, blending the two.

Free from the guilt of Confrontation

Execllent book! Growing up, I was under the impression that confrontation was a negative thing - that if I confronted a person about an issue then that meant I was a bad person for having poor or hurt feelings. After I read "Caring Enough to Confront" I understood that confrontation could acutally be a positive response to negative behavior. I highly reccommend this book for anyone suffering from the confrontation jitters.

This book really helps those of us at times that have had to confront and have felt guilty for doing so.
Caring and confronting together provide the balance of Love and Power which lead to effective human relationships.
Like anything else there is a time for caring and a time for confronting. Each in it's own time. Care when caring is called for and confront when confrontation is required.

Comprehensive Account But Flawed

The range of work is impressive , the presentation clear and the articles written by the guest writers interesting. For an office that promotes technical innovation as a major aspect of their work the book lacks details which is curious and disappointing. Overall the book comes across as sophisticated marketing and not a balanced ,critical assessment. However , despite these faults, this book and the others in the series are still the best reference for this Architect.

But who will help Gran when her cough sends her to the hospital? A Robot, of corse. Special, new, cough-blasting robots carefully made by a very concerned little grandson just for his Gran. Ian Whybrow's affectionate, entertaining, and highly recommended picturebook story is wonderfully showcased and enhanced with Adrian Reynolds' lively and colorful artwork.
