About the Author

Steve Fox, principal at Marijuana Strategies, is one of the leading figures in the movement to create a legal, regulated marijuana market in the United States. He is a cofounder of the National Cannabis Industry Association, which currently represents more than 250 state-legal businesses, and serves as a strategic advisor to the organization. While at the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) from 2002--2013, Steve lobbied Congress and guided numerous ballot-initiative campaigns, including the Amendment 64 campaign in Colorado, which made personal possession and cultivation of marijuana legal, while establishing a regulated market for adults. In 2005, Steve conceptualized and cofounded (with coauthor Mason Tvert) Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER) in Colorado for the express purpose of educating the public about the fact that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. The goal, eventually realized, was to change the mindset of voters in order to make marijuana legal through a ballot initiative. He now serves as an independent consultant, advising individuals and organizations on marijuana policy- and industry-related issues.

Chris Johnson is an Oakland-based artist and professor of photography at California College of the Arts. Previously he served as the president of SF Camerawork, director of the Mother Jones International Fund for Documentary Photography, and chair of City of Oakland Cultural Affairs Commission. His book The Practical Zone System for Film and Digital Photography (1999) is currently in its fourth printing.

I am so excited to see that Murray Hallam has made his plans available by Kindle. I absolutely love this book!! The easy to understand step-by-step instructions have helped us build our own abundant aquaponic system. Name is deceiving. It's not exactly a book of plans, it's more a description of an installation with many critical parts missing. You have to buy actual plans for a real book of plans. Would be better sold as a complete set plans plus book. This review isn't about price, it's about getting what the name says. The system is amazing but not do able from the book alone, at least not easily.

Public life in Renaissance Florence

This is an excellent book: thorough in coverage and so well written that one need not be an academic scholar to enjoy and learn from it. Trexler's research labor is not evident in the writing but in the wealth of information that brings this most significant period of time and place to life. It is, moreover, a fine example of new history, meaning of real people going about daily life rather than kings, wars, and social upheavals.

Covering vaguely the 1300s-1600s, this exhaustive work concerns itself with how society's public spectacles and ceremonies changed over time and why. I can't say enough about how amazing Trexler's accomplishments are. Though the writing itself scatters occasionally, the information here is invaluable. Religion, sex, and politics were massively intertwined with public display through marriage, childrearing, political meetings and lawmaking, and even in the seemingly innocent displays like snowball fights between noble-born teenagers! Legislation especially touched upon facets of life like what someone could wear and who someone could have sex with. Homosexuality itself is covered in detail--how society's seeming hypocrisy between attitudes and practice can be reconciled. The very spiritual nature of Florentines, both regarding Christian and "magical" behaviors and mindsets. Jousts, church dedications, ambassadorial visits, voting days, saints' feast days, engagements, and more all combined to create a rich, thriving public world for Florentines. To learn more about how Florentines created their public world, get this book. I can't say enough about it.

Chapters cover how Florentines viewed the human body, time and space, and the transitions from one stage of life to another; rituals involving friendship and family members; public displays regarding celebrations; and especially religious and spiritual ceremonies and displays.

One thing which researchers will especially like about this book is its extensive primary source citation. Footnoted and boasting a good bibliography and index, this book will be a valuable part of your research library.

Paul Lauter is the Smith Professor of Literature at Trinity College. He has served as president of the American Studies Association and is a major figure in the revision of the American literary canon.

Richard Yarborough is Professor of English and African American Studies at the University of California-Los Angeles. His work focuses on African American literature and on the construction of race in U.S. culture. He directs the University Press of New England's Library of Black Literature series.

John Alberti teaches at Northern Kentucky University and has a Ph.D. in American literature from UCLA. His main area of research is multicultural American literature and culture.

Mary Pat Brady teaches U.S. Literature. She has written extensively on contemporary U.S. Latino literature.

Dr. Bryer is an expert on F. Scott Fitzgerald and is president of the International F. Scott Fitzgerald Society. He was an editor of DEAR SCOTT, DEAREST ZELDA: THE LOVE LETTERS OF F. SCOTT AND ZELDA FITZGERALD (Macmillan).

I used this for an American Lit class, and it had a lot of different works in it by a variety of authors. I especially liked the focus on narrative fiction, and the inclusion of works written by women and people of color. Overall, a nice textbook for the class.

The product came in great condition, even though I bought it used

It gives a very interesting perspective into American history. It has many historical important figures that give their opinions of the time. It changes the way you see American history and gives multiple opinions/perspectives on events, which really opened you eyes. The product came in great condition, even though I bought it used.
